Peer review for quality – determination in the issue of patents
I believe all patented inventions should be novel. Most of you will agree that awarding patent to a non-original invention amounts to gross violation of the intellectual property rights. Such events need to be checked with the active participation of society in general and intellectuals in particular.
The issuer of patents in the United States, the US Patent and Trademark Office, is accused of rubber stamping patents that end up harming other inventions.
I was pleased to know that the latest Community Patent Project aims to design and pilot an online system for peer review of patents. New York Law School will host the effort sponsored by IBM. The Community Patent system will support a network of experts to advise the Patent Office and assist it with patentability determinations.
